Europe Baijiu Market Analysis, Product Selection and Pricing

1. Conclusions

  1. Lowest awareness; build long term through cocktails. Europe's Chinese community is dispersed and local consumers know little about baijiu. Germany is the entry point.
  2. Large tax gap between the two markets. UK spirits duty is £33.99 per litre of pure alcohol, about RMB 86 on a 53% 500 ml bottle. German spirits tax is €13.03 per litre of pure alcohol, about RMB 27, but the government plans to raise it to about €15.64 in 2027.
  3. Lead with a mixology baijiu and the sauce aroma gift box. A 40%, 700 ml mixology baijiu goes into cocktail bars and specialist spirits e-commerce: £45 in the UK with a distillery price cap of RMB 45, and €34.9 in Germany with a cap of RMB 48. The entry sauce aroma gift box goes through Chinese restaurants and Asian supermarkets: £59 in the UK (cap RMB 85) and €49 in Germany (cap RMB 80).
  4. Differentiation is needed. Wuliangye (Düsseldorf branch), Guotai (Germany), Xijiu (Spain) and Fenjiu (Spain, Italy) already promote in Europe. A new brand must stand out through cocktail occasions and origin stories.
